Don’t be afraid to show your love for each other
The more love and emotion you show for each other, the better your photos will turn out. Some things that might be helpful are thinking about how much you love each family member when you interact with them, that always brings out that sparkle in people’s eyes.
2. Choose the Right Outfits to Convey Emotion
Some people don’t think that the clothes they wear to their photoshoot matter. I say, let me tell you why they do. When you look at a painting or a movie that looks absolutely amazing, do you know what is one of the main things people spent time on? The colors!
Colors have an amazing power to evoke emotions. So, coordinating the colors your family will wear for your family photos will help us tell the story in the most emotional way possible.
Other characteristics of clothing are also important, for example, clothes that flow will add another dimension to the images. Textures and patterns can add more visual interest too.
3. Have Fun!
This one is super simple. If you have fun, your kids will have fun and everybody will feel relaxed. When you relax your face muscles stop being tense, your shoulders drop and the magic happens.
I will do everything I can to make sure you can enjoy your session as much as possible. If you are particularly worried about anything, just let me know and we will think about a solution together.
4. Find a Photographer Who is Amazing with Kids
I might be a little biased because I absolutely love spending time with kids, but loving kids and wanting to make them happy is, in my opinion, the most important attribute a family photographer can have.
My entire session is designed to keep kids happy so that everybody can have a good time. It starts by choosing a location that has enough interesting things for the kids to do and then during the session I follow their lead. If something I am trying to do is not working for them, I will change it up quickly to keep them interested.
5. Don’t Force the Kids to Smile
I keep going on and on about this, but I believe this one is super important. Kids who are forced to smile for photos will get tired of it very quickly. They will also feel like that’s the main objective of the shoot, so once they smile a few times, they will feel like they have done their part.
Instead, let’s focus on having fun. That way we will definitely get some smiles from them, but they will be much more natural and genuine.
I also love to photograph all different expressions and feelings that kids have because they are all amazing, and one day you will want to remember every single detail about your kids.
