Are you a busy parent searching for the ideal Portland neighborhoods?

The city is renowned for its diverse, bustling neighborhoods, each with its unique character and attractions. However, selecting a suitable place to live can be daunting.

As a working parent, you’ll want to find a secure, family-friendly area that’s conveniently located near amenities and services. In this article, we highlight some of the top neighborhoods in Portland that meet these requirements.

Portland Neighborhoods – East Side

Laurelhurst

Laurelhurst, situated in Southeast Portland, is a fantastic option for families. It’s known for its beautiful tree-lined streets, lovely parks, and top-notch schools such as Laurelhurst Elementary School and Grant High School. There are also numerous family-friendly events throughout the year.

This neighborhood is full of life and amazing food and entertainment options like Fifty Licks ice cream and the beautiful Laurelhurst park.

Sellwood-Moreland

Sellwood-Moreland, in Southeast Portland, is a popular family-friendly neighborhood. It’s renowned for its gorgeous parks such as Sellwood Park and Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, which offer numerous outdoor activities. Additionally, the neighborhood has several family-friendly amenities, such as a community center, library, and farmers market. Working parents can take advantage of easy access to downtown Portland.

One of my favorite family-friendly things to do in Sellwood is the Portland Insectarium, your kids will love it!

West Linn

Finally, West Linn is a suburban neighborhood located just south of Portland. With top-rated schools like West Linn High School and Cedaroak Park Primary School, working parents can easily access downtown Portland and nearby cities such as Lake Oswego and Tualatin. The neighborhood also has many family-friendly amenities, including parks, playgrounds, and community centers.

An amazing nature spot to check out in West Linn is Camassia Natural Area, specially in Spring.

Forest Heights

If you’re looking for a beautiful, upscale neighborhood with breathtaking views of the city and surrounding mountains, Forest Heights is an excellent choice. It’s located in the hills above downtown Portland and has highly regarded schools such as Forest Park Elementary School and Lincoln High School. With easy access to downtown, working parents can enjoy the best of both worlds.

The local HOA even offers a bus service between the neighborhood and the nearest train station if you would like to take advantage of public transport options.

Cedar Hills

Cedar Hills is another great option, located in the western part of Portland. It’s a suburban neighborhood with top-rated schools like Sunset High School and Terra Linda Elementary School. Working parents can access downtown Portland and nearby cities such as Beaverton and Hillsboro with ease. Cedar Hills also has plenty of family-friendly amenities, including parks, playgrounds, and community centers.

Cedar Hills is perfect because it’s a quiet suburb but so close to Portland. Depending on the time of day, you can get from Cedar Hills to Downtown Portland in 12 mins.

Bethany

Bethany is a great neighborhood for families in Portland. It’s home to high-quality schools such as Springville K-8 School and Westview High School, which are known for providing children with top-notch education. Families can also enjoy a variety of amenities, including parks, playgrounds, community centers, and the Bethany Village Shopping Center, which offers convenient access to shopping and dining options. For fitness and recreational opportunities, the Bethany Athletic Club is the place to be.

Pirate Park is located in Bethany and it’s one of our absolute favorites to visit.

All in all, Portland has a range of neighborhoods suitable for working parents. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly area with great schools or a suburban neighborhood with easy access to the city, Portland has something for everyone. It’s essential to consider your family’s needs when choosing the perfect neighborhood to call home in Portland.
